Review Message Templates

A lot of hosts skip guest reviews because it feels like a chore. Bad move. Your reviews help other hosts decide whether to accept a booking, and Airbnb takes note of hosts who leave them consistently. It’s part of being an active, engaged host on the platform.

Keep it honest. Keep it fair. And don’t write a novel. A couple of sentences is plenty. If the guest was great, say so. If there were issues, be factual and specific, not emotional. Other hosts will thank you for it.
Here are ready-to-go templates for every situation. Swap out the [brackets] and you’re done.

Neutral Reviews

1. [Guest Name] was fine overall. No major issues, though the place needed a bit more tidying than usual at checkout. Would consider hosting again.
2. Decent stay. [Guest Name] was respectful and communication was okay, though replies were a bit slow at times. No damage or rule issues.
3. [Guest Name] was an okay guest. Checkout was a little later than agreed but nothing serious. Place was left in reasonable condition.
4. Everything was mostly fine with [Guest Name]. A few extra dishes left out and the trash wasn't taken out, but nothing that caused a real problem.
5. [Guest Name] stayed without any major issues. The place could have been left a bit tidier, but overall an acceptable stay.
6. [Guest Name] was polite and communicative. They did leave some personal items behind which we had to ship, so just double-check before you leave next time. Otherwise fine.
7. Straightforward stay with [Guest Name]. Not much communication during the trip, but no complaints and no damage. Middle of the road.
8. [Guest Name] checked in and out without issues. A few of the house rules were missed (shoes indoors, thermostat setting) but nothing major. Fair guest overall.
9. [Guest Name] was a reasonable guest. The space was left in okay condition. Not spotless, but not bad either. Would probably host again.
10. [Guest Name] was generally respectful. There was a small stain on the couch cushion that came out with cleaning, so no real harm done. Average stay.
11. Communication was a bit minimal with [Guest Name], which made logistics a little trickier than usual. Stay itself was fine, though. No damage or issues.
12. [Guest Name] seemed to enjoy their stay. Checkout was on time. The place needed a heavier clean than normal but nothing was damaged. Acceptable.
13. Mixed bag with [Guest Name]. Friendly and polite in conversation, but the checkout condition wasn't quite what we'd hope for. Extra dishes, some trash left behind. Not a dealbreaker.
14. [Guest Name] followed most of the house rules. There was a small noise concern from a neighbor one evening, but they were responsive when I messaged about it. Okay overall.
15. Fine stay with [Guest Name]. Nothing went wrong, but also not the tidiest checkout. The kind of guest where everything is just adequate.
16. [Guest Name] was pleasant to communicate with. The only note is that they had an extra guest beyond what was listed on the booking. It was addressed and wasn't a big deal, but worth mentioning.
17. Pretty standard stay. [Guest Name] was respectful of the property. A few lights and the AC were left on at checkout, but that's minor. No complaints beyond that.
18. [Guest Name] was a fine guest. Arrived on time, left on time. A bit more wear on the linens than usual but nothing outside normal use. Would host again with no strong feelings either way.
19. [Guest Name] was easy to book with but a bit hard to reach during the stay. Everything turned out fine. Just would have preferred a quicker reply when I checked in about checkout time.
20. [Guest Name] stayed for [X nights] without any real problems. The place was left in so-so condition. Not bad, just not as tidy as we usually see. Fair guest.

Negative Reviews

Be careful with these. Stick to facts. Don’t get emotional or personal. Future hosts are reading this to make a decision, and factual reviews carry more weight than angry ones. If the issue was serious (damage, rule violations, safety concerns), say so clearly.

1. Unfortunately, [Guest Name] left the property in poor condition. Excessive trash, dirty dishes throughout, and stains on the bedding that required professional cleaning. Would not host again.
2. [Guest Name] violated our no-smoking policy. The unit smelled strongly of smoke upon checkout and required extra cleaning and an ozone treatment. Can't recommend to other hosts.
3. Communication with [Guest Name] was very difficult. Multiple messages went unanswered, checkout time was ignored, and we were unable to coordinate a smooth turnover for the next guest.
4. [Guest Name] had unauthorized guests over during their stay. Our security camera (exterior only) showed more people than the booking listed. This was a clear rule violation and I would not host again.
5. The property was left with noticeable damage. [Specific item] was broken and [specific item] was stained beyond what we could clean ourselves. A damage claim was filed. I wouldn't recommend hosting [Guest Name].
6. [Guest Name] checked out several hours late without any notice. This caused a cascade issue with our cleaning team and the next guest's check-in. Not the kind of experience I'd want other hosts to deal with.
7. We received multiple noise complaints from neighbors during [Guest Name]'s stay. I messaged twice to ask them to bring it down. The second night was the same. Would not host again.
8. [Guest Name] was not truthful about the purpose of their stay. What was booked as a quiet getaway turned into a gathering that violated our no-parties rule. Very disappointing.
9. I hate leaving negative reviews, but [Guest Name] left the place in a state that took our cleaning team three times longer than normal to turn over. Food left out, garbage on the floor, bathroom in rough shape. Not acceptable.
10. [Guest Name] seemed fine at first, but checkout told a different story. Furniture was rearranged, a wall had a scuff mark, and several towels were missing. Would not host again.
11. [Guest Name] brought a pet despite our no-pets policy. There was pet hair on the furniture and a smell that took extra cleaning to address. This should have been disclosed before booking.
12. We had to contact Airbnb support during [Guest Name]'s stay due to [specific issue: noise, damage, unauthorized guests, etc.]. The situation was handled, but I can't recommend this guest to other hosts.
13. [Guest Name] left behind a significant mess and did not follow any of the checkout instructions. Trash overflowing, dishes piled up, beds stripped and thrown on the floor. Felt disrespectful.
14. The main issue with [Guest Name] was a lack of respect for the space. Burn marks on the countertop, grease splatter on the walls, and sticky residue on multiple surfaces. We had to bring in extra cleaning help.
15. [Guest Name] locked themselves out twice and called at late hours for help, which I handled. But the real problem was the condition of the home at checkout. Damage to [item] and a general mess throughout. Would not host again.
16. I asked [Guest Name] to respect quiet hours after a neighbor complaint on the first night. It happened again the second night. By the third night, I was dealing with a formal complaint from the building. Not a guest I can recommend.
17. [Guest Name] attempted to have visitors that exceeded our occupancy limit. When I raised it, the response was dismissive. The stay ended without further issues, but the disregard for our house rules was concerning.
18. [Guest Name] was uncommunicative and left the property with the door unlocked, windows open, and AC running. On top of that, several items from the kitchen were missing. A frustrating experience.
19. Checkout was a real problem with [Guest Name]. Not only was it late, but the condition of the unit was below any reasonable expectation. Stains on the carpet, trash bags left inside instead of in the bins, and a broken [item]. Damage claim filed.
20. I genuinely try to give every guest the benefit of the doubt, but [Guest Name] made hosting a stressful experience. Between the late-night noise, the mess, and the lack of communication when I reached out, I would not host again and can't recommend to others.

Quick Tip on Timing

Airbnb gives you 14 days after checkout to leave a review. Don’t wait until day 13. Get it done within 24 to 48 hours while the stay is fresh. For positive stays, it’s easy to put it off and then forget. Set yourself a reminder or, honestly, just keep these templates saved in your notes app and knock it out right after checkout.
